Background

I am Jose Carlos Lopez Bravo I was brought up in Guanajuato, Mexico. My parents are both from Guanajuato and they are merchants so all my life I have worked and studied, I have just one brother who is younger than me. I love my family, even though we are all really different we have a close relationship, I was raised surrounded by love, thanks God.

What are your hobbies and interests?

I am really into swimming, I love go jogging, go sightseeing, I am a big fan of watching movies, I like to know new people, I really love pets, specially my pug dogs (Laika and Teddy), I really love eating junk food from time to time like dorilocos, tostadas de cueritos and so on.

What is one of your favorite scriptures?

Jeremiah 1, 4-9:
The word of the Lord came to me thus,“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,  Before you were born I dedicated you; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” “Ah, Lord God,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.”

But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord.

Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “I have put my words in your mouth.

Who is your favorite saint and why?

St. Augustine. His life encourages me to take seriously my vocation, in spite of the mistakes we have committed, God is always waiting for us.

In a nutshell, what is your vocation story? How did you feel called to the priesthood?

My vocation story is a mystery, I wasn´t interested in this path, I had a very different plan for my life, but when I was finishing High School, I bumped into an advertisement about the seminary in Mexico, so, I do not why, that ad called my attention, I called to the seminary and the vacation´s director invited me to the “pre-seminario” during this event I felt a strong called to give my life to God through the priesthood.

What is seminary life like for you?

I think the life in the seminary is a really worthy preparation for us, we are living very close of the sacraments, doing sacrifices, etc. so it is a special time to prepare us in order to become in a saint priest.

What do you look forward to about being a priest?

I am looking forward be really a bridge between God and Men, I want to inspire with my life through my testimony to other people that is worthy to be with God. I want to be a saint, and I want to be a God´s instrument.

What advice do you have for other guys thinking about the priesthood?

Ok, you guys have to be focused in your happiness and in the God´s will, be brave and try this path, think about how you can be different, you can change this world with your testimony, don´t be afraid to be with the King.
